Changing the registered office and establishing business locations
The registered office legally identifies the company, while a business location is a place where it operates outside that office. Each operation requires a check of the right to use the premises, the corporate decision, declared activities and any special authorisations.
Registered office or business location?
The registered office is the legal entity’s official address and appears in its articles of association and the Trade Register. A business location is a secondary establishment where activities may be carried out without replacing the principal office.
Choosing the wrong operation may result in an incomplete file or leave the place where the team actually works unaccounted for. Sector-specific legislation must also be checked for warehouses, shops, offices, clinics or workshops.
Right of use and corporate documents
The type of agreement for the premises must match the actual situation and intended duration. Ownership and the signatories must be checked, and the address must be identical across all documents.
- A lease, loan-for-use agreement or other valid right of use.
- Property documents required by the applicable procedure.
- The general meeting resolution or sole member’s decision.
- Updated articles of association when the registered office changes.
- Declarations concerning operating conditions and activities carried out.
- The authorisation and documents for electronic filing, where applicable.
CAEN activities and authorisations
Registration of the amendment with ONRC does not replace operating approvals, local permits, fire safety, public health or environmental requirements, or professional rules, where applicable.
CAEN Rev.3 has been in use since 1 January 2025. If the company has not updated its business objects, a registered-office or business-location operation is a good opportunity to check the classification and consistency of its declared activities.
What to update after the amendment is approved
After the address changes, the information must be carried through the company’s documents and relationships to avoid missed communications or invoices with outdated details.
- Invoices, contracts, website, terms and policies.
- The bank, accountant, insurers and key partners.
- Sector-specific registers and authorisations.
- Addresses for correspondence and contractual notices.
- Employment contracts or internal policies if the place of work changes.
- Data protection and records of locations where information is processed.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use a company member’s home as the registered office?+
This is possible if a valid right of use exists and the requirements applicable to the property and activity are met. Whether activities are carried out at the office may affect the documentation.
Is moving to another county the same procedure?+
Not in every respect. Moving the registered office to another county involves a more extensive registration change, and the ONRC checklist corresponding to the destination must be followed.
Can a business location start operating immediately?+
Only if both the registration formalities and the sector-specific authorisations and conditions applicable to the particular activity are satisfied.
